What is Christmas? For some, it's the remembrance of Jesus' birth. For others, it's Santa-brings-me-stuff Day. Some don't celebrate Christmas because of the day's ties to Christ. Others don't celebrate it because it isn't the actual day of Jesus' birth.
(No, duh, there. The Bible doesn't spell out the date. It's kinda like refusing the celebrate the 4th of July because that's not when we won the war. But... rabbit trail.)
Me? I celebrate Christmas. Not because of Santa's presents, family tradition, or even because of Jesus' birth. Yes, that seems to X-out all the options.
But to me, Christmas means thanksgiving.
...yeah, I know. A bit backwards. But think of it this way.
Why do we exchange gifts?
It's an expression of thankfulness and gratefulness to one another.
Why do we remember Jesus' birth?
Because He came to Earth, lived, and died so we have life. And we thank Him for it.
Why does Santa bring us presents?
Well, if you still believe in Santa, I'm thankful for your childlike wonder. I salute you.
So the meaning of Christmas? For me, it's a time of reflection. Looking back on an ending year and thanking God for all the blessings and bumps.
Because He came to this world, I have hope. Because He died, I have life. Because He rose again, I have a future. Because of His grace, I have freedom.
Christmas isn't about gifts, but the thoughts behind them. Not about Jesus' birth, but the reason behind His sacrifice. Christmas is thanksgiving. And I am so thankful for every person in the DA community.
Jesus, friends, and family.
You are Christmas to me.
Thank you~♥
